Wendy is currently teaching high school Yoga 15, Yoga 25 and Yoga 35 elective/ option courses to teenagers ages 15-18. These courses are offered Monday through Friday for 80 minutes each class and students receive 5 credits towards high school graduation upon completion. The course follows an Alberta Locally Developed Curriculum. The course introduces students to all areas of yoga including various styles of yoga, mindfulness & meditation practices, yoga history and philosophy as well as focusing on reducing stress and anxiety during the adolescent years. Yoga classes are also offered during various times weekly at lunch (gentle practice/ meditation) and after school (designed for sports teams).
Wendy has been practicing yoga for 20 years and especially enjoys practicing the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga as well as the creative movement and intuitive practice of Flow yoga.
Wendy Doerksen received her 200 YTT with the Soma Institute in July 2016. She has completed the i.dot 8 week training in Mindfulness in Schools and has a 25 hour Teen Yoga Teaching Certification. She continues to study and practice Ashtanga and Flow at Yogadotcalm in Calgary, Alberta with her mentor Andrea Salamon. Her most recent workshops during Covid restrictions have been back bending with David Garrigues and an intensive workshop in Ashtanga asana with Erin Evans. She has completed the book study of the Bhagavad Gita with John Bultman online through the University of Virginia.
Wendy has attended workshops with Kino McGregor, Tim Miller, Fiona Stang, Michael Stone, David Garrigues and Brea Johnson. Local workshops around the Rocky Mountains include sessions with Jeff Mah and Erin Evans. She has also completed a workshop intensive with Yoga Detour and Cecily Milne. She currently practices at the beloved Yogadotcalm in Calgary, Alberta where she finds all of her inspiration with the knowledgeable owners and teachers there.
