Dr Kathie M Black PhD, CYT, CYA-E-RYT 500, CRA RM/RT holds a BSc in Biology/Geology, ED in Secondary Education, and minor in Dance; an MA in Technology; and, a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction in Multicultural Teacher Education with an emphasis in Science Education/Physics.  She worked extensively with adult students, adolescents, and children for over 25 years in sports, classrooms, and university settings.  She served as a university professor for over 17 years teaching thousands of students, working closely with graduate students, researching, writing, presenting, and publishing her works focusing on learning and teaching as well as specific needs for all students.  Dr. Black is a current BCCT lifetime licensed teacher as well as an active scientific researcher.  Throughout her many years as a university professor and science teacher, Dr. Black taught all levels of anatomy & physiology as well as specializing in teaching teachers how to teach, mentoring students in classroom settings, and presenting her work worldwide.  Dr. Black is an active sports enthusiast participating over the years in downhill skiing, snowboarding, biking, gymnastics, tennis, kayaking, backpacking, hiking, and is an avid golfer.  She has happily returned to her dancing roots and is actively participating in ballet, tap, and modern, jazz and musical theatre.

Dr. Black turned to an intensive and active personal yoga and meditation practice to manage chronic illnesses.  Her yoga practice has been wide and varied over the past 25 years with her personal focus on Ashtanga and Anusara Based Hatha methods.  Dr. Black obtained her 200 Hour Level Certification in the Ashtanga Hatha Yoga System from Caroline Klebl, E-RYT at Source of Yoga and her 500 Hour Level Certification from Karen Heaven Claffey, Certified Anusara Instructor and E-RYT.  Through her years of service in education and her extensive yoga practices and teaching, Dr. Black is an Experienced Yoga Teacher at the 500 level and beyond.  Dr. Black is an active member of the IAYT and the Canadian Reiki Association.  She is the author of three books, numerous academic research papers and conference presentations and is a co-owner in Blackstone Saunas, primary owner of Ravenrock Publishing, Inc., and owner/director of her school. 

Dr. Black is an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (CYA-E-RYT 500 and Yoga Alliance E-RYT500), and brings a solid knowledge of science, the human body, and human spirit to all her trainings.  Dr. Black’s educational philosophies reach to each student’s personal needs with the main focus on helping the student move toward effective connections of mind/body/spirit and sharing their inspiration and lifestyle skills with others.
