I have been involved in yoga since 2009, while I was studying at the university. Because of almost no physical activity, I used to have immense lower back pain and this led me to start practicing yoga asanas. Later, I wanted to learn more about the yoga teachings, that's when I completed my first yoga TT in 2012, which was not a YA registered program.
For my further Yoga training, apart from my professional and academic experience, I have been to the Yoga Journal Conferences in San Diego, California, USA, in July 2012, where I attended yoga sessions ranging from Anatomy to Yoga philosophy from outstanding Yoga teachers, such as Sianna Sherman, Rod Stryker, Kathryn Budig, Jill Miller, Desiree Rumbaugh, and many others.
In 2014, I completed my second 200hr TT program; approved by sVYASA India and Yoga Alliance, which allowed me to apply for Post-Graduate Diploma in Yoga Teaching at the very same university, via distant education.
For my advanced teacher training, having decided to follow the traditional Hatha-Raja Yoga path with my beloved guru Sri Dharma Mittra, I went to NYC and stayed for 3 months to complete the 500 HR LOAY TT program in 2014, as well as to practice with and learn from Sri Dharma and the senior teachers he has taught at the Dharma Yoga Center. In August 2015, I completed the 800 HR LOAY TT at the Center, as well, and received my certification in May 2016. Currently, I am the only Dharma Yoga Registered Teacher in Turkey; also the only one that received training in 500hr & 800hr level. I often visit New York and other cities around the world to learn more from the senior teachers of our lineage, to deepen my practice and knowledge on the yogic science.
I have been offering traditional Dharma Yoga (Hatha-Raja Yoga; covering asana, pranayama, meditation techniques, psychic development, etc.) classes at various locations in Istanbul since Autumn 2014, humbly channeling the teachings of Sri Dharma Mittra and his Guru, Swami Kailashananda (a.k.a. Yogi Gupta).
Through YogaSala, I had the privilege to study with Hart Lazer, founder of United Yoga Montreal; I completed the first half of Advanced Yoga Teaching program of 150hrs, which focused on the technical and anatomical approach to asanas. His method is unique as it blends the asana teachings of Iyengar yoga and Ashtanga Yoga, as well as Hart's own knowledge on human physiology and psychology. In the private sessions that I offer in Turkish and English, I usually implement Hart's methods into the asana practice.
As learning never ends, I often follow workshops and immersions of other lineages too, such as Jivamukti Yoga, Sivananda Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga; there is always something that a yogi can learn and implement into their own life in the beginning years of their journey, my personal preference is usually to the traditional Hatha yoga teachings, which, I strongly believe, hold the true essence of yoga.
