Michele Barocchi is an E-RTY 500 with Yoga Alliance, which acknowledges the completion of a yoga teacher training with an approved and active Registered Yoga School (RYS).
Michèle Anne Barocchi received her PhD in Infection and Immunity from the University of California, Berkeley in 2003. During her doctoral studies she discovered Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga in a small studio in the Haight District in San Francisco, California. She decided to attend the It's Yoga San Francisco Teacher training in June, 2003, prior to moving to Florence, Italy – in order to deepen her practice of Ashtanga. There she met Larry Schultz, and with his inspiration, founded the Cultural Association It’s Yoga Firenze in 2004. She is a Yoga Alliance registered ERYT-500, is trained in Ashtanga Vinyasa, Yin and Restorative Yoga. Michele and her former It's Yoga colleagues have started a new Collective in Europe In December 2020.
In August of 2015 Michèle was in a nearly fatal accident, her left leg amputated by an oncoming car. Her journey in yoga and life has deepened with this transformative experience.
She is currently on leave from her career in research, but continues to teach and study internationally. In the 5 years since the event, she has become a Certified Vedic Chant Teacher through the program in the Vedic Mantra tradition with her teacher Menaka Desikachar, in Chennai India at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Foundation.
She is also well versed in traditional practices of Pranayama, Samantraka Abhyasa (Yoga and Mantra), Gayatri Dhyanam (the recitation of the Vedic 24 syllable Mantras), and studies in ancient philosophies of the Bhagavad Gita.
Michele has been teaching the practice of yoga for 18 years.
