As I was approaching my 46th birthday I became increasingly aware that I had to make some changes to my life before I became a candidate for an early demise! I was working long hours in a demanding job in the public sector and commuting from Carlisle to Newcastle on a daily basis. My family were neglected and I was exhausted. To make matters worse I am an insulin dependant diabetic and my sugar control was all over the place! I had heard about yoga and knew that it was supposed to be good for getting you fit, but more importantly for calming the mind and so I decided to give it a go. It really helped and as time went by I felt better and better.
In April 2013 I went to India and completed 300hrs teacher training in Goa. I am an accredited Yoga Alliance Teacher and YACEP trainer. This experience was an amazing one and taught me much about myself and took my yoga practice to another level.
I founded Carlisle Yoga in 2013 and then The Yoga Studio Carlisle in 2016. The studio was recognised as being one of the top 25 yoga studios in the UK by Women's Health Magazine and OriGym on 2018. I sold The Yoga Studio Carlisle in 2019.
I am the owner of Carlisle Yoga School and now deliver teacher trainings and weekend immersions from the beautiful Dacre Hall, the oldest village hall in England situated in the grounds of Lanercost Priory, lying in the shadow of Hadrian's Wall.
I firmly believe that practising yoga has had such a positive effect on my health and well-being and would recommend it to everyone. I have continued to develop my yoga practice with additional training from Paul Grilley, Bernie Clark, Karen Kirkness and Josh Summers. I live in Brampton with my husband Mike and two Siamese cats.
Yoga can change your life and you are never too old to start!
