Karen came to yoga as a college student in 1997 and has been practising and teaching movement-breath coordination ever since. Since 2003 on the first of her several trips to Mysore, India, Karen has been passionate about Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga and its evolution as a method of personal transformation. Her approach to the system itself is respectful yet innovative, as the world of modern postural yoga finally adapts from guru culture toward compassion and consent.
Karen’s teaching practice is centred on her creative anatomy training techniques in order to better understand the unifying principles of yoga. She holds a Masters in Fine Art and a Masters in Human Anatomy from the University of Edinburgh. Her passion for art and anatomy come through in her teachings, as Karen is known for her engaging workshops utilising kinaesthetic learning techniques such as anatomy body painting and building tensegrity models.
Karen is founder and director of Meadowlark Yoga and its Avid Yogi Teacher Training programme, offering 200 Hour foundational Yoga Teacher Training as well as a 300 Hour Advanced Course. Together with her faculty, Karen believes in empowering others to find a practice that suits their circumstances, bringing together a community of students and teachers situated in the heart of Edinburgh, Scotland.
