Spira is Latin for breath of life. Similarly, in Sanskrit, Prana is the breath and also the life force energy of the body. These similarities between Sanskrit and Latin resemble our East meets West approach to teaching, studying and practicing yoga. Eastern knowledge of yoga and meditation as well as Western research and understandings of the body and mind are the basis of our curriculum offered in our yoga teacher training courses, continuing education courses, workshops and retreats.

Our mission is in our name and in our logo. Our dandelion represents the hope, desire and intention of the individuals we serve. Our name, Spira, is the root for English words such as spiral, spirit, aspire and inspire. We inspire others in finding what's best for their physical, mental and spiritual well-being through our retreats and workshops. We assist aspiring men and women in becoming active yoga teachers in their community by offering yoga teacher training and continuing education courses. We are a catalyst in the spiraling outward expansion of yogic knowledge and awareness pertaining to mind, body and spirit!

“You are what your deep, driving desire is.
As your desire is, so is your will.
As your will is, so is your deed.
As your deed is, so is your destiny.”

- Brihadaranyaka Upanishad IV 4.5

Desires are the seeds for creation. Whether you are creating your dream job, your perfect life, or your whole reality, desires are the spark that initiates all other actions. Your desire is your destiny, your life's path, your dharma, from the Sanskrit root word dhri, meaning uplift or uphold.

Uplift yourself! Uphold your desires for your life! If you desire to teach yoga in your community, Spira will help you unlock your potential through our teacher training and continuing education courses. If you desire to explore your yoga practice, Spira can help you deepen your connection to a yogic lifestyle through local workshops and destination retreats. Learn more about all that we have to offer, what makes us stand out from the rest, and why we may be exactly what you need to continue following your dharma!

As part of the Yoga Alliance Social Credentialing system, teachers that register with Yoga Alliance must submit a review of the RYS training program they completed.

Feedback from trainees provides Registered Yoga Schools with the opportunity to understand their trainees’ experiences in order to continually improve their trainings.

By choosing to display comments, schools enable trainees to provide insight into a school’s culture and training which helps potential trainees choose the right teacher training for their individual path with yoga.

Too much favoritism to certain individuals. You can feel excluded. But if you don’t need much help and want heavy alignment this is the class.

Thank you for your feedback! We regret to hear this feedback after the training program finalized as we strive to foster an inclusive environment for all trainees. And this feedback is perplexing considering the amount of one-on-one communication that did occur throughout the training between you and the Lead Trainer. Many of the other trainees in the same training class have given the exact opposite feedback and felt included in the group environment and supported via the individualized communication between each trainee and the Lead Trainer. We agree that our course is rigorous, and alignment is key in preparation to safely and effectively teach postures. Alignment as well as all of the other subject categories covered in our training lay the foundation for teaching yoga.

If you are ready to jump in and enter the world of teaching yoga, Spira Yoga School is a fantastic place to get a good solid foundation towards that end.

The scope of the Spira Yoga School training was beyond my expectation, from my 50 years of practice. It provided us training in a number of schools of yoga (Iyengar-style, Hatha, Vinyasa, Vinyasa etc., as well as related subjects as Aruveda, foundational texts, kirtan and the like. One suggestion for improvement is to have students practice even more specific techniques on getting into and out of poses and flowing from one pose to another.
