Everyday People Yoga is a yoga studio and school based in Eugene, Oregon. Our aim is to create a sacred space for the cultivation of spirituality and to give you the resources necessary to be a creative, professional yoga teacher.

Our teacher training program takes place over 8 intensive weekends with non-contact hours taking place afterwards. Students receive a 3 month membership to the studio as the teacher training is taking place in order to sample other classes and teaching styles. This is an incredibly well-rounded teacher training that will give you the resources to chart your course forward as a yoga teacher.

Reviews

As part of the Yoga Alliance Social Credentialing system, teachers that register with Yoga Alliance must submit a review of the RYS training program they completed.

Feedback from trainees provides Registered Yoga Schools with the opportunity to understand their trainees’ experiences in order to continually improve their trainings.

By choosing to display comments, schools enable trainees to provide insight into a school’s culture and training which helps potential trainees choose the right teacher training for their individual path with yoga.

Despite agreeing with the yogic lifestyle values emphasized at this school, I was deeply unsettled by religious zealousness, use of the yamas as coercive mechanisms to persuade students that any disagreement with the teacher would be unrighteous, and apparent contradictions in teaching values: the ideals of acceptance and compassion were verbally expressed, yet myself and my classmates were shamed for not participating in ritualistic chanting, criticized for different personal values and for our sexuality, and threatened with negative karmic consequences for sharing our experiences in the class with others. I hope that the disconnect between the goals of this school and the teaching behavior that is so off-putting for some students can be resolved in the future.

Hi Shelley, Thank you for sharing your sentiments. I'm sorry you felt unsettled during your training. Though we haven't yet received this type of feedback from any of our students, still I wish to honor your unique expression of truth. Rather than dispute your perspective, I would rather let the studio; the energy of the space and all the wonderful students that are attracted to it, and all the gifted teachers, speak for themselves. I will again share my final comments in the write-ups you submitted for certification a few weeks ago: "I'm truly grateful to have shared space with you during this year's YTT. You are very intelligent, thoughtful, grounded, sincere, well-spoken, and considerate of others. I also appreciated your feedback during the training. You are gifted in many ways, and have tremendous potential as a yoga teacher. I think that countless people can, and will benefit from your presence in the years to come. Keep working at it, and applying your skills, and you will certainly succeed in any field to which you apply yourself." I wish you health, happiness, and harmony, and much success in your future endeavors in yoga and life. All my love, ~phoenix

Everyday People Yoga is a warm and wonderful studio with teachers who clearly love what they teach and who are always themselves learning more, which they then share with students who attend classes there. Full Review
