The Portland Community College Exercise Science program is excited to offer this 200-hour Registered Yoga School.  With a balance of the movement sciences, yoga philosophy, and practical application that goes beyond Yoga Alliance requirements, graduates of the official PCC Yoga Teacher Certificate Program are well-prepared to teach hatha yoga in a variety of settings.

Faculty members have been teaching yoga for 10-20 years and are also highly experienced in higher education, having taught in the PCC Exercise Science and Physical Education programs for many years.

Details of the 12-credit certificate program may be found at this link. Additional information about tuition and cost may be found at this link, including a tuition calculator that will estimate the cost of the full 12-credit program.

This is an academic program that earns each student 12 college credits at PCC.  This program is also considered a career pathway certificate that may be applied towards the Associates of Applied Science degree in Exercise Science.

For more information, please contact Alma Eaton (email address linked).

(Please note: PCC offers a non-credit Ayurvedic Yoga Program that is not related to this for-credit program.)

Reviews

As part of the Yoga Alliance Social Credentialing system, teachers that register with Yoga Alliance must submit a review of the RYS training program they completed.

Feedback from trainees provides Registered Yoga Schools with the opportunity to understand their trainees’ experiences in order to continually improve their trainings.

By choosing to display comments, schools enable trainees to provide insight into a school’s culture and training which helps potential trainees choose the right teacher training for their individual path with yoga.

Portland Community College's program is a wonderful program with knowledgeable and responsive instruction. The instructors were open and available for questions and further explanation of muscles and body mechanics. It is a very affordable program that I highly recommend.

The instructors at PCC in the yoga teacher training program were amazing. I learned so many valuable things to teach to my students and add to my practice.

The teachers at PCC are dedicated to guiding students through the foundations of asana and philosophies of yoga. It was a pleasure to join this program after 20 years of practice. They were able to adjust the program to distance learning through the COVID-19 pandemic when they were set to be in person. Their ability to adjust and provide space for us to grow and learn was extraordinary. I feel this program gave me a solid foundation for teaching and helped me understand the need to continue learning along the way.

I am deeply grateful for the yoga teacher training and education I received at Portland Community College. Teachers Alma and Jill have created an amazing program that lives up to the high academic standards of exercise science. They guide students in their learning to teach asana safely, ethically and inclusively. This program also offers a thorough introduction to yoga origins and philosophy with respect for the culture from which yoga comes. The teachers foster a caring, personal and interactive environment where each student supports the others on their journeys.

Both instructors are incredibly knowledgeable not only of yoga, but of the human body as a whole. I would highly recommend this school to anyone in the area who is looking to get certified as a yoga instructor.

Alma and Jill are incredible yoga instructors and made an incredible amount of yoga information accessible and challenging at the same time. I felt very welcomed and encouraged to challenge myself in a very supportive and kind environment. I want given a very well rounded education that trained students with asana, sequencing, pranayama, meditation, yoga philosophy, different yoga styles, anatomy, some chanting, energy systems, Ayurveda. Alma and Jill create a very safe and warm environment so that students are able to connect and support one another. I had a really great experience with the program and would recommend it to anyone in search of a high quality, accessible yoga program.

The training and education given at PCC is top notch. It is both a highly regarded and highly affordable institution. The passion of the instructors is unparalleled, as is their desire to help you succeed. It is a wonderful program.
