Big News for the Arkansas Yoga Community!

January 23, 2015

We are pleased to announce that yesterday, Senator Uvalde Lindsay and Representative Charlie Collins introduced a bill in the Arkansas General Assembly that would prevent state regulators from imposing burdensome and expensive regulations on yoga teacher training programs in this state.

This bill, which Yoga Alliance® representatives provided consultation for, is a critically important step in our efforts to protect the rights of yoga studios to operate in Arkansas without unnecessary intrusion.

We hope you have seen recent news reports about the Yoga Alliance and the Arkansas yoga community’s strong opposition to the State Board of Private Career Education’s (SBPCE) efforts to bring yoga studios under its authority. We are heartened that members of Arkansas' state legislature are listening and actively working with us to prevent the SBPCE from overstepping its authority. We are even more encouraged by the numerous messages we have received from individuals in our community asking how they can do more to help.

We may have taken a big step forward, but our work is not over yet. If you oppose the unnecessary and harmful regulation of yoga teacher training programs in Arkansas, please:

  • Watch for updates from us. Over the coming weeks, as the legislature considers this bill, it will be vital that we make our voices heard. Shortly, we will be sending around letters and instructions on how to contact your representatives and ask them to support the yoga community by supporting this bill. Be on the lookout for this information, and let your friends, family, and fellow yogis know it is coming as well!
  • Help support this effort. Yoga Alliance has been working hard to advocate for the rights of the Arkansas yoga community, but we need some help so our legal team can keep the pressure on. Please help us get the job done with a financial contribution. Any donation would be greatly appreciated, and should be made via PayPal.

Thank you for your help in protecting yoga in Arkansas.
