A New Law for the Show Me State!
Published: June 13, 2016
We are very excited to announce that Governor Jay Nixon signed HB 1681 into law! This new law exempts Missouri yoga teacher training programs (YTTs) from unnecessary government regulation and no longer classifies YTTs as proprietary schools under the Missouri Department of Higher Education’s regulations. Moreover, this law will save Missouri yogis from paying prohibitive fees and meeting burdensome, unnecessary requirements. It officially goes into effect on August 28, 2016.
Thank you to everyone who supported this effort, including Representative Elijah Haahr for sponsoring the bill, the legislators who voted for the bill and most importantly, the Missouri yoga community for making its voice heard. Today is a powerful win for yogis across the state!
Send Gratitude
Now is the perfect opportunity to thank your legislators for their work. Find your local representatives and share your gratitude for their service to the yoga community.
Pay It Forward
Missouri is the fifth state in the past two years where we’ve been successful in protecting yoga from troublesome regulation. While we are extraordinarily proud of this accomplishment, we know future wins are not guaranteed. Consider supporting our advocacy efforts with a financial contribution to pay if forward to other states whose yoga communities are at risk. With your help, we can ensure that other states will not hinder their thriving yoga communities with harmful regulations.
Thank you for your support of our continuing advocacy efforts!
