In August 2013, we hosted our third national event—YA’s first annual The Business of Yoga Conference. Yoga schools, studios and teachers from all over the world gathered in Washington, DC to focus on how to better spread the practice of yoga and meet the challenges of sustaining a yoga school, studio or personal business. Over 350 people attended the event and enjoyed more than 30 sessions from a wide variety of speakers sharing their proven tips for success in the yoga business. Couldn’t make it to DC? In October 2011, YA hosted its first annual conference in Indian Wells, CA themed Yoga in the West: Past, Present & Future, with the educational mission of shedding light on the origins of Yoga. The inaugural event featured five keynote speakers (Lilias Folan, Philip Goldberg, David Frawley, Mark Singleton, Gyandev McCord), many of whom have studied and written extensively on the history of yoga. We hosted over 50 educational sessions, morning and evening practice sessions, nightly kirtan performances and daily community forums. Over 325 people attended from across the country and around the world to learn from one another and inspire the yoga movement at this landmark event.
