Melissa Clark has been practicing yoga for two decades. Working in the corporate world, Melissa often finds herself bending over backwards to meet her clients’ needs. Fortunately, yoga has given her balance, strength and flexibility on her mat, and in her life.
Yoga is mindful awareness; creating a relationship between your body and mind through your breath. Allowing you to tune out of the material world and tap into the real you, the authentic you. Through yoga you learn how to challenge yourself physically and mentally. Yoga conditions your body and mind to relax even when in challenging situations (physical or mental).
Melissa completed her RYT 200 through Yogalution Movement with a focus on Hatha Yoga in 2013. When taking a class from Melissa, expect a mellow yet challenging class. Hatha incorporates postures (asana) and conscious breathing (Pranayama) in combination with mental focus to develop mindful awareness, strength and flexibility.
Misconceptions about yoga:
Many people think yoga is for girls, or they have to be slim and fit before doing yoga, yoga is not a real work out, yoga is intimidating… I have heard it all.
The truth is I have seen many men (of all shapes and sizes) challenged in yoga classes. Yoga is for both sexes, all shapes and sizes and all ages; you need to find the right class for you, and most importantly be aware of where you are in your practice. When in a class, don’t compare yourself to how your neighbor looks in a pose, they could be further along in their practice, or they could be injuring themselves. If you can feel something in the pose, you are benefiting from the pose. Only you know how you feel in a pose, be aware of your strengths and limitations.
Melissa is additionally certified in Yin Yoga and Reiki Level Two.
