Further clarifications and definitions:
Subjects
of Study:
- Although
Yoga AllianceSM honors
and respects related disciplines
and traditions, both contact
and non-contact hours
are limited to areas that
fall within the scope of
traditional yoga studies.
- YA
strongly recommends CPR
(cardiopulmonary resuscitation)
and first aid training for
all RYTSMs, and suggests
that all schools recommend
it to their trainees. CPR
and first aid training hours
cannot be counted toward
satisfying the minimum YTT
curriculum hour requirements.
Definitions All teachers other than Primary E-RYTSMs in the yoga teacher training (YTT) must be documented as either: 1) being a RYTSM, or 2) having substantial training in the subject category they are teaching (at least 100 hours of education and/or experience).
Note: In a 500-hour YTT that doesn't have a preliminary 200-hour YTT, RYTSMs 200 and E-RYTSMs 200 could teach some of the earlier contact hours in the program.
Hours-One hour equals 60 minutes. Time allocated for meals, or for breaks longer than 10 minutes, does not count as program hours.
Contact
hour-A contact hour is a classroom hour in the physical presence of a faculty member. Contact hours must be in a dedicated yoga teacher training (YTT) environment (into which others might occasionally be invited) rather than in classes intended for the general public.
